History
Plants For All Seasons #2 was established
on December 21, 1987. The 6610 Louetta location was previously operated under the name Klein Nursery on 1 acre before being acquired by Brian Flaherty. In January 1988, Klein Nursery's name changed to Plants For All Seasons. Brian Flaherty is Victor Flaherty's brother, owner of Plants For All Seasons #1.
The 6610 Louetta location doubled its sales in the first few
years of operation due to an abundance of hard work and a record cold spell in December of 1989. The nursery continued to flourish in the early 1990's which resulted in the acquisition of an additional 1.5 acres in late 1993. The front portion of that acreage was used to triple our parking lot. It also allowed our Christmas tree sales to nearly triple as well.
All businesses have their ups and downs. We were due for a down. Our industry directly suffered as a result of the events of 9-11-01, and the uncertainty it brought to the economics of not only our country but the Houston area as well. Our slowdown in business gave us time to focus on the future of our business.
Our business was on property that needed updating and development. The needed direction and answers were fairly straight forward. First study comparable garden centers in and
out of state that were appealing, second get an architect, third a reliable contractor, and fourth a construction loan from our bank. In 2003, all four wheels were on the car until one developed a flat and that was the bank loan. It took over 3 years and a different bank to rectify that flat only to develop one with a contractor the next year.
In 2008, our fingers were crossed that all tires on the car were running forward. Finally in February 2009, we finished our new garden center and gift shop. Let the good times roll again!
